The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), is an innovative software package
which will provide you with a formal, analytical approach, to decision and
problem analysis. Using a proven scientific method, the AHP will help you
to avoid intuition and speculation, while preserving such qualitative
factors as experience and judgment.
Employing pairwise comparisons and a hierarchical structure of the problem,
the AHP will allow you to easily quantify subjective or intangible factors.
Furthermore, decomposing a complex problem into a hierarchical model, has
the advantage of allowing you to focus your attention on each part of the
problem separately. Hence, a difficult problem or decision, is reduced to
simple comparisons of two elements, with respect to only one criteria or
factor.
Based on your pairwise comparisons, the AHP will calculate weights for each
element in the hierarchical model. It will also report your judgment
consistency, and indicate specifically which judgments, if any, are
inconsistent.
Because of it's ability to allow the user to easily quantify subjective or
intangible factors, the AHP may be used beyond the traditional decision or
problem analysis type of situations. One example might be taste testing a
new food or beverage product.
